In his book “Where have all the Leaders Gone?” Lee Iacocca, legendary CEO of Chrysler, cites nine important characteristics of leadership. While all nine are important, Lee particularly focuses on these three: Communication, Character, and Courage. He calls on leaders to reject the status quo and be willing to say what’s unpopular, to lead where people don’t want to naturally go, and risk reputation and ego for principle. Without question, we are living in unprecedented times. As one author put it, we are witnessing an “axis of upheaval” where social, political and economic unrest have converged to create the perfect storm. If we’ve ever needed leadership, it is now.
